Breaking: Ashaiman NDC Chairman Shaddad Jallo Dies Suddenly — Community in Shock!

The Ashaiman branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Constituency Chairman, Shaddad Umar Jallo.

Jallo passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, June 14, 2025, in East Legon, shortly after complaining of feeling unwell. While an official cause of death hasn't been confirmed, sources close to the family suspect it may be linked to high blood pressure.

At the time of his death, Jallo was serving his second term as the NDC's Constituency Chairman for Ashaiman. He was also an active member of the National Zongo Caucus Coordinating Team, where he played a crucial role in promoting the party’s interests within Muslim communities across the country.

Jallo was instrumental during the 2024 general elections, helping the NDC reduce the vote margin of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashaiman area. His grassroots approach and deep ties within the Zongo community made him a respected and strategic figure in the party.

A close family source revealed that in his final days, Jallo felt disappointed over what he described as a lack of political appointments for people from Ashaiman under the current Mahama-led administration. He had long championed the idea that Ashaiman deserved more recognition and representation at the national level.

Shaddad Jallo will be laid to rest on Sunday, June 15, at 9:00 AM, following Islamic burial rites. He leaves behind a wife and eight children.

His passing is not only a great loss to the Ashaiman NDC but also to the larger Zongo and political community in Ghana.

Who Was Shaddad Umar Jallo?

Jallo was a well-loved grassroots leader widely respected for his dedication and vibrant approach. As Chairman of the Ashaiman NDC, he guided party strategy and supported mobilization efforts across the constituency. His additional role on the Zongo Caucus Coordinating Team highlighted his deep connection to Ghana’s northern and Zongo communities.

Colleagues describe him as energetic, compassionate, and genuinely committed to bettering society through politics.

What Jallo’s Legacy Means for Ashaiman

His sudden death has left a void at a critical time leading up to upcoming elections. Supporters fear that his absence may slow down campaign initiatives and disrupt community engagement. However, many remain determined to carry on his vision and have already begun discussions about a suitable successor.

Reactions from the Ground

Though details on funeral arrangements are still pending, social media and local NDC leaders have flooded platforms with tributes:

“He was the heartbeat of Ashaiman—always there to listen and help,” wrote one saddened friend.

“This is a huge loss for us all,” echoed another in an outpouring of grief.

What Comes Next?

The Ashaiman NDC branch is expected to convene soon to announce interim leadership and chart a way forward. Community members and political watchers are also bracing for an election-day gamble, when voters often look for strong local voices like Jallo.
