Lewis Hamilton to Co-Host 2025 Met Gala, Highlighting Menswear and Black Style
Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been announced as one of the co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala, joining A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. LeBron James will serve as the honorary chair for the event. The gala is scheduled for May 5, 2025, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
This year's Met Gala theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," focusing on the influence of Black dandyism and menswear in fashion. The theme draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller's book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." The accompanying exhibition will explore how Black men have used fashion as a form of self-expression and identity across history.
Hamilton expressed his excitement about co-chairing the event, stating:
"This theme speaks to me deeply. When I started my career I never imagined what I might be capable of beyond my sport. The pressure to conform holds so many people back. Growing up as the only Black kid on the ... ."
The 2025 Met Gala marks the first time since 2003 that the event will center exclusively on menswear. The dress code, titled "Tailored for You," encourages attendees to showcase sharp tailoring and personalized fashion statements.

The exhibition will feature 12 sections, each representing aspects of Black dandyism, such as Ownership, Freedom, Beauty, and Cool. It will include garments, paintings, and photographs from artists like Torkwase Dyson and Tyler Mitchell.
Hamilton's involvement in the Met Gala underscores his commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in fashion. He has previously collaborated with designers like Daniel Lee of Burberry to highlight Black creatives and stories through his attire.
