Adu-Boahene Claims GH₵5.1 Million Spent on Vehicles for President-Elect Mahama During Transition
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the now-defunct National Signals Bureau (NSB), has asserted that GH₵5.1 million—currently under investigation—was utilized to procure vehicles for then President-elect John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 transition period. In a letter penned from EOCO custody, where he is on remand, Adu-Boahene detailed expenditures he described as part of "Special Operations" conducted during the sensitive post-election phase.
Adu-Boahene, facing multiple charges including stealing and causing financial loss to the state, firmly denied the allegations. He emphasized that all disbursements made under his leadership at the NSB were authorized and directly related to national security operations. “I am not a thief,” he wrote. “All funds were expended in good faith and in service to the Republic.”
He further explained that the vehicles in question were essential for the logistical needs of the incoming President and his team, and that procurement was carried out under urgent and classified directives.
Conclusion
The allegations surrounding the GH₵5.1 million expenditure have sparked public discourse on the transparency of state fund utilization during governmental transitions. As investigations continue, the Ghanaian public awaits clarity on the matter to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of national institutions.
