Domelevo Was Serving Mahama Not Ghana, He Was Designated to Cut My Gov't Down – Akufo-Addo Clarifies Why He "Resigned" Him

President Akufo-Addo has said the former Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo was not serving Ghana but was doing the bidding of former President John Mahama, his appointor.

According to the president, there was a negative motive behind how Mahama rushed to get Domelevo appointed in December 2016 even after he had won the elections and was looking forward to getting sworn in.

In a 21-page document issued by the Office of the President to chronicle matters leading to what many deem to be the controversial retirement of the Auditor General, the President said John Mahama hurriedly selected Mr Domelevo rather than one Dr Felix Kwame Aveh because of his “painful loss” in the 2016 presidential election.

An excerpt of the document reads:

“After losing the election, it became necessary for former President Mahama to change his nomination for Auditor General, with the sole aim of saddling the then-President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, with an Auditor General whose allegiance was to former President Mahama, instead of the nation.”

“A reasonable and objective conclusion was that having lost his mandate to govern, former President Mahama appointed Mr Domelevo to the office, knowing very well that President Akufo-Addo would be sworn into office in a few days, to pursue a particular agenda.”

“Stranger still is the fact that Mr Domelevo’s appointment process was initiated on 13th December 2016, a few days after this emphatic rejection. The appointment process for Mr Domelevo was rushed through the Council o State to enable former President Mahama to appoint Mr Domelevvo before leaving office.”

Background:

Former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo was asked to proceed on an accumulated leave of more than 100 days few weeks to the 202o elections. A decision CSOs and other organizations deemed unfair and described as a witch hunt.

However, after serving his leave, Daniel Dmelevo returned to his office in March 2021 only to be served a retirement notice asking him to retire because new information has revealed that he had passed the retirement threshold.

Many Ghanaians bashed the president for acting unfairly especially when Daniel Domelevo was deemed to be protecting the public purse and even got former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Mafo sanctioned over the infamous Kroll and Associates deal.
